Dark Harbor By David Hosp
Dark Harbor is a legal thriller and murder mystery novel written by David Hosp. With a fast and intricate plotline, Dark Harbor keeps the reader turning pages. Through incorporating the worst of humanity, and his professional experience as a lawyer, David Hosp creates a thriller with multiple killers. From terrorist attacks to mobsters read on as the protagonist, Finn, navigates the dark underbelly of Boston to solve the grisly murder of his former lover.
As an orphan, growing up in the projects of Boston, Finn grew up learning the skills required to survive on the streets. His childhood and adolescence forced him to grow up tough as every day was a struggle to survive. As time went on Finn knew he had to leave this lifestyle or it would bury him. Using his grit and resolve, Finn went from mugging and fighting to an up-and-coming lawyer working for a prominent law firm in the Boston area. His life was on the fast track of success until a terrorist attack caused the world around him to spin out of control. His lover and fellow associate, Natalie Cadwell, is found murdered while working on a high-profile case. Finn, trying to find the answers behind her murder, stumbles down a rabbit hole that would leave him struggling for air. Dark Harbor hits the reader with action right from page one and the velocity of this novel will only grow until it comes to an explosive grand finale.
My experience with this book was bitter-sweet. While there was never a dull moment I felt that the novel could be divided into two acts. Without trying to give spoilers there were two major criminal cases that defined the trajectory of this novel. The first act revolved around a serial killer while the second act revolved around Finn uncovering the truth behind the death of Natalie. While serial killers no doubt grab a reader’s attention this book felt as if it was trying to stuff in as many nut cases and plot twists as possible. Dark Harbor could have easily turned into two very different novels, each revolving around their own respective investigations. While David did a bang-up job making all of these different pieces fit, I got tired of the book after the case, in what I would consider the first act, was solved.
Overall if you want a book that will keep throwing action and murders at you Dark Harbor is the book for you
