Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance
Written by Angela Duckworth
Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth is a book full of insights and new ways to think about how passion and hard work can translate into various positive outcomes. Grit, as a New York Times bestseller, does not fall short of providing the reader with new ways to look at life. The book is centered around grit and how a person doesn’t have to be a genius in order to facilitate greatness or a fulfilled life. With real-life examples and data from Angela’s own studies and life, Grit makes for a compelling novel.
Throughout the entire book, Angela uses real-life examples that range from West Point students to spelling bee participants to allow the reader to take a step into the arena that is life. Through these compelling stories, the reader can better grasp the main points of this book. Angela has put pen to paper and conceived a masterful novel that not only is a pleasure to read but creates an opportunity for the reader to grow.
From a young age, most people are told that if they work hard and apply themselves that they will be able to do anything they set their minds to. While this statement might come across as fanciful, Grit is able to shed new light on this belief while being a great read at the same time. Grit is able to prove this belief to the reader which is critically important in a society that places the talented on a pedestal. Angela Duckworth reminds us all that behind every success story there is passion and hard work, and while Grit acknowledges that talent is helpful it is not an end-all-be-all.
Personally, this book was like a light blub popping up over my head and this is largely in part because of my current life circumstances. I am passionate about reading and writing and yet what I currently do for a living has little to no connection to either of those things. This book really stresses the importance of how being passionate in what you do leads to grit or vice versa, for if you are truly passionate about something failure is not the end of the road. This blog represents my grit and my passion for reading and writing. This is only my second post which means there is still room for failure. I am okay with that because I know I will keep on trying.
